About Us
United with Kenya (UwK) was started in 2005 by Dan Iacovella, Anna Jones-Iacovella and Ben Maraka-Museve to work in partnership with the village of Chepsaita, Kenya to improve the quality of life. Its primary focus was on helping to create clean sources of water for the village. In 2009, UwK expanded its focus to include education and expanded the Board membership. In 2011, UwK obtained 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
United with Kenya now includes the contributions of over 600 community volunteers and financial donors. Dan Iacovella, Kristen Leddy, Sherry Jagerson, Joan Duncan, and Anne Khanna serve as members of the Board of Directors of UwK. The Board leads efforts in the United States to develop initiatives, raise funds, and coordinate volunteers trips. Ben Maraka-Museve, coordinates all efforts in the field including working with the three major oversight committees to develop initiatives, interfacing with Kenyan administrators, and organizing the logistics of all projects and UwK trips.
United with Kenya is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. All donations made to United With Kenya go directly to projects. No administrative fees or overhead costs are taken out of donations.
